House Clerk: Roderick Bennett
Roderick Bennett is a graduate of Brevard Community College which will soon be Eastern Florida State College as they begin to offer 4 year Bachelor’s degrees in the Fall of 2013. After completing a few more prerequisites Roderick will continue his studies at the University of West Florida.
Roderick has been heavily involved in student government at Brevard Community College. Roderick has been the SGA President of the Cocoa Campus for two terms (2011-2012 & 2012-2013). Roderick served as founding President and Chair of the BCC College Wide Council of SGA Presidents. Roderick has also served on the District and State Executive Boards of the Florida College System Student Government Association as District II Legislative Liaison (2011-2012) and District II Coordinator (2012-2013). Roderick is very active with many other clubs and organizations on campus. Roderick has served on various committees including the BCC Presidential Search Committee serving as the student voice and Vice Chair. Roderick has attended many state and national conferences including the American Student Government Association National Conference in Washington D.C., and the National Center for Student Leadership. Roderick has hosted many leadership workshops on and off campus, throughout the state and at FCSSGA Conferences. Roderick, with his innate ability to “FIRE UP” crowds with motivation and excitement has become a pillar for the community and all those he’s worked with. Roderick has been involved with the Florida Model Legislature since 2012 serving as the Committee Chair of the Economic Development Committee. Roderick was a member of the NPA political party during the 2012 Conference. This year, Roderick serves as House Secretary and although, still NPA at heart, he will be a member of the Unity Party to align with the Speaker of the Houses’ political party. Roderick will reprise his role as Committee Chair of the House Economic Development Committee. Roderick also serves as a leader for one of this year’s FML Minority Caucuses. Roderick is ecstatic and ready for this year’s Florida Model Legislature; an experience that will be both rewarding and fun for all. |
Role of the ClerkIn Florida Model Legislatures House of Representatives, the Clerk will serve at the leisure of the Speaker. The Clerk typically reads the bills and other necessary readings as condoned by the rules of the procedures. The Clerk will write bills as part of the conference participation, however the actual Clerk of the Florida House of Representatives leads a non partisan office. In conference, the clerk also assist with updating the bill citator for the house bills.
