House Clerk: Chris Stokes
Chris Stokes was born in Berlin, Germany to a pair of Army parents. Much of his early life was spent moving from state to state, wherever the next Army base was located. It was in 1994 that Chris’ family finally stopped their somewhat nomadic existence and settled down in Orlando, Florida. During his high school years, Chris was a four year member of the marching band and a member of the chapter FFA, holding leadership positions in both. It was not until Chris entered college at Valencia College that his passion for politics and public service came to light. Chris has volunteered with organizations such as Second Harvest Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House and the Community Food & Outreach Center.
In August of 2011 Chris left Valencia College with his Associates degree and entered the University of Central Florida to major in Political Science, Pre-Law. During his time at UCF, Chris hopes to enhance his community involvement and on-campus participation. After UCF, Chris plans to attend law school at Florida A&M University in Orlando. In the future Chris hopes to practice law and become interested in community organizing. If asked who has influenced his political ideology the most, his answer would be John F. Kennedy. Chris served as Senator for District 4 at Florida Model Legislature in 2001 and is looking forward to serving as your Clerk of the House in 2012. | Role of the ClerkIn Florida Model Legislatures House of Representatives, the Clerk will serve at the leisure of the Speaker. The Clerk typically reads the bills and other necessary readings as condoned by the rules of the procedures. The Clerk will write bills as part of the conference participation, however the actual Clerk of the Florida House of Representatives leads a non partisan office. In conference, the clerk also assist with updating the bill citator for the house bills.
