Florida Government Legislation (Bills)

Legislation is the most vital piece of the legislative process. It is responsible for creating constitutional amendments, amending florida statutes (laws), creating new statutes, and many other vital functions. Bills must be submitted by a legislator (representative or senator). The Bills must have sections which amend law or provide recognition for a cause, person, or organization. The House of Representatives has created a very important document entitled "How a Bill Becomes a Law" and is widely used to educate those interested in the process. Bills may be passed by either chamber, then heard in the other. If a bill has been amended in one Chamber and the text do not match, the legislature typically forms a Conference Committee, which will publish a bill that is a collaboration between the two chambers, and which must be passed by both the House and Senate.

A Bill Tracker is often what the legislature publishes for people interested in "following" where certain legislation is in the process. Florida Model Legislature has created a Bill Tracker as well, you can click here to view it.

Senate Bill Information

The Bill System for the Florida Senate is similar to the House of Representatives. The Senate also has created a "track bills" toll which allows you to follow the specifics of a bill as it goes through the legislature. You will need to create an account with the Senates Webpage, however it is a very useful tool for following legislations movements through the legislature.
